HOW A HOLE IN MY SON'S PANTS SPARKED A WHOLE BUSINESS
Share
It all started with a hole.
Not a metaphorical one, but an actual hole—in the knee of my toddler’s pants. Again. The third pair that week. The laundry pile had become a pile of frustration, full of clothes that couldn’t keep up with my son’s energy, curiosity, or his ability to turn every playground visit into a full-contact sport.
I was tired. Tired of replacing clothes that didn’t last. Tired of boys’ sections filled with trucks, sharks, and dinosaurs on repeat. Tired of feeling like nothing out there reflected our real lives: snack breaks in the backseat, big feelings in grocery store aisles, and the daily routine of Play. Eat. Nap. Repeat.
So I did what moms do best. I got resourceful.
That hole in his pants didn’t just spark a complaint—it sparked an idea. What if there was a brand that combined style, durability, and real-life relatability? What if boys’ clothes weren’t just an afterthought, but a way to celebrate the chaos years?
That’s how Playground Originals® was born.
I wanted to create clothes that worked as hard as our kids play. Our hoodies and joggers are made with premium Polartec® fabric—trusted by outdoor brands for a reason. Because if it’s good enough for hikes and cold-weather adventures, it’s good enough for chasing bubbles, climbing monkey bars, and crashing into couch cushions.
And then came the t-shirts. Designs inspired by real parenting moments. Like the toddler who demands snacks but never meals. The one with boundless energy. The nap fighter who finally falls asleep mid-snack. These aren’t just graphic tees. They’re a love letter to the chaos years—and a wink to every parent who’s been there.
Now, every order is a reminder that our days may be messy, but they’re meaningful. That what we dress our kids in can do more than look cute—it can tell a story. A story that starts with a hole, and ends with something that lasts.
So here’s to the pants that didn’t make it, and the brand that did.
